Fruit salsas for summer 25 Jul 2010 at 1:39am
Fresh summer fruit is a sweet addition to a homemade salsa recipe, so take advantage of the season and make some homemade salsa.

Try this pictured apricot salsa recipe to start with, get tropical with a sweet mango and peach salsa or get creative with a unique pineapple salsa or even a mouth-watering strawberry orange salsa.

Though it's often paired with fatty fried chips, Mexican salsa is a healthy choice on it's own. Why not pair it with healthier homemade baked pita chips or baked crisped tortillas for a lower-fat snack? Or, use your homemade fruit salsa to top off a baked potato, to make a Mexican salad, or to fill a healthy vegetarian burrito.

The term vegetable, was once used for any plants, now it is the name for many food plants. There is no clear botanical distinction between vegetables and fruits. Because they consist mostly of water, they are low in calories. They are and excellent source of fiber, vitamins A and C, calcium, potassium and iron. Dried beans, lentils and peas are a source of complex carbohydrates and are high in protean which makes them a meat substitute.
